More casting news is coming in for Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist. The latest word is that acclaimed actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has officially joined the cast. This casting marks a reunion for Ejiofor and Flanagan, as the two previously worked on the Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck.
A BAFTA Award winner and Oscar nominee, Ejiofor is known in part for his performance as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave. Comic fans may also recognize him from Doctor Strange and Venom: The Last Dance. The actor also starred in Showtime’s The Man Who Fell to Earth with other film roles including The Martian, Children of Men, American Gangster, Inside Man, Love Actually, The Old Guard 2, and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Flanagan’s The Exorcist will be set in the same universe as the original film, but it is notably not a direct sequel to David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer. Beyond that, no details have been revealed about the plot or if any original characters will be making any appearances. Previously announced cast members for the new movie include Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane.
