Netflix will be reimagining Scooby-Doo with an all-new live-action adaptation that’s now in the works. It was reported this week that Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters franchise, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2) had been cast as Daphne for the project, becoming the next person to portray a live-action incarnation of the beloved character.
As longtime fans of the Scooby-Doo franchise will remember, Sarah Michelle Gellar previously played Daphne in two live-action films. Following the news of Grace’s casting, Gellar posted her reaction on her Instagram Stories. While sharing a screenshot of a Deadline article about the news, Gellar added, “[Mckenna Grace] you are going to be perfect!!”
Reposting Gellar’s reaction to her own Instagram Stories, Grace responded by writing, “I’m so not normal about this rn. What is life I love you so much.”

The new series is written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, and it is being described as an “origin story of how the Mystery Inc. group got together and first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all.”
The description continues, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
No other cast members have yet been named for the untitled series. It also remains unclear when the show will hit Netflix.
