Red Flag Down Blu-ray Review

Lately, I’ve been covering almost everything Visual Vengeance has to offer. Most of their releases have been low-budget gems from the SOV era, but they’ve also ventured into works shot on film. It now appears that Visual Vengeance is no longer the only game in town, since Blood Sick Productions has dipped their pinky toe into the same pond.

While having previously released modern no-budget fare like Coven of the Black Cube (2024) and Busted Babies (2024), Blood Sick Productions leap back in time about 30 years to find Red Flag Down (1992), an SOV action cheapie that has its moments but is an acquired taste overall.

Paintball takes a deadly turn in this action-packed thriller when the eccentric owners of a state-of-the-art paintball park invite a young city reporter to check out their latest attraction. What begins as an opportunity to showcase their high-tech playground quickly turns into a bloodbath when one team discovers they’ve been given real ammunition and are killing their opponents.

With friends dead and no easy way out, the survivors turn their attention to the twisted masterminds behind the game, only to discover they’re trapped in a fight for survival. From here, it’s a no-holds-barred showdown where revenge comes loaded, and nobody gets out clean.

Red Flag Down Blu-ray Review

Red Flag Down is a new title for me, and having grown up in that era, I find the nostalgia factor alone enough to draw me in, whether the film is good or not. This is one of those movies where you know no one has really mastered their craft, but they still wear their hearts on their sleeves and just have fun with the material.

At nearly an hour, Red Flag Down is barely a feature. It moves at a comfortable pace, making this The Most Dangerous Game spoof a welcome addition to the pantheon of forgotten horrors. It’s also a little gross and kind of funny, especially the two villains.

The Blu-ray from Blood Sick and their partners Lunchmeat VHS restores the film to the best of their abilities while adding supplements like:

  • Welcome To Florida Asshole!!! – A short film by James Hollenbaugh featuring Christopher Smith
  • Liner Notes by James Hollenbaugh
  • Commentary Track by Josh Schafer from Lunchmeat and Brewce Longo & Kasper Meltedhair from Blood Sick Productions

It also features a pretty nifty slipcover for those who enjoy them. Red Flag Down might be pretty average in the broader world of SOV nasties, but it’s always great to see these films aren’t being lost. They’re brought back to life by the passion of those who still long for the VHS era and the childhoods that shaped them.
