deadwood movie

If your favorite show gets the axe, never give up hope of seeing a proper conclusion! From 2004 to 2006, the Western series Deadwood aired three seasons on the HBO network. The series had a stellar cast that included Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant, and it became a cult hit by the end of its short run.

However, anyone who’s seen the series can attest that it ended far too soon, and the finale left many fans feeling cheated. But it seems the story isn’t over just yet.

Twelve years after the final episode of Deadwood aired, HBO has announced its plans to resurrect the fan-favorite show. This time, however, the series is coming back in the form of an all-new feature film. The screenplay was penned by David Milch, the creator of the series, and Daniel Minahan, who directed two episodes, will be helming the movie. With Milch on board, the story can’t get any more authentic than that.

No casting announcements have been made official, so it remains to be seen which characters will be returning. One would presume a time jump in the story is necessary, considering the number of years it’s been since the show ended. Olyphant and McShane have both previously expressed interest in reviving the series, so hopefully, we will see each of them there when the film makes it to air.

As it stands, HBO plans to shoot the revival film in October and air it sometime in the summer of 2019. Stay tuned for more updates on the series!
