Created by Benjamin Maara, Night Business is a graphic novel published by Maara’s imprint, Traditional Comics and Fantagraphics Books. It is a 10-part Giallo-style comic series with 231 pages, set in a city full of gangs, strippers, and cults. Night Business is ’80s sleaze on hyperdrive.
Every page is packed to the gutters with beautifully detailed artwork. Maara’s style is reminiscent of underground comics legend Spain Rodriguez, with enough TNA to give Andy Sidaris a run for his money.
Night Business is about a talent agency, Glitz Glam, whose girls start suddenly become the victim of what appears to be a slasher. The slasher’s methods harken back to the murder of their not forgotten former dancer Angela, whom they still feel helpless over. Now, the muscle of Glitz Glam, Johnny, has a score to settle and is going to make sure his girls are safe. Johnny comes face to face with the slasher, but something or someone always ends up getting in his way.
Along the way, Johnny will come up against not only the slasher but the pimps, gangs, and cult behind it all. With the help of Chase, a former dancer, and victim turned biker, Steve, his partner at Glitz Glam, and his boss, who supplies him with a drug that enhances his abilities, Johnny is out for revenge, and no one is safe.
