Ever since the latest Chucky movie was released at the end of 2017, the franchise has been met with a bit of controversy. Despite Chucky creator Don Mancini’s desire to keep the storyline from the film franchise going in a planned TV series, MGM chose to fast-track a film reboot. Not only are some Chucky fans bitter about this, those personally involved feel a sense of betrayal from it. Child’s Play 2 star Christine Elise even personally told us it was an “unbelievably huge dick move.”
Regardless, the movie is officially a go. However, the good news is that both the reboot and the upcoming series can co-exist. MGM is not interfering with Mancini’s plans to continue the original storyline, keeping the door open for the potential series. Now, it the project is making some traction, as it’s being reported that Syfy has ordered a Child’s Play TV series, set in the same universe established by the original movie series.

Mancini will be on board as a creator, writer, and executive producer. David Kirschner and Nick Antosca are also executive producing. No acting talent has yet been officially attached to the project, though it seems incredibly likely Brad Dourif will be lending his voice to the role of Chucky once again. Other major players from the series, such as Jennifer Tilly, Christine Elise, and Alex Vincent, will also almost definitely be appearing.
Additionally, Mancini confirmed the news in a statement:
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and SYFY is the perfect network for us. The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
As of right now, there is no release date attached to the upcoming series, nor is it known how many episodes the premiere season will contain. What we do know is that the show will definitely pick up after the events of Cult of Chucky, keeping alive the original continuity for the series first established in 1988. With or without the remake hitting the big screen, the original Chucky will still be terrorizing people on the small one.
MGM’s Child’s Play reboot hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
