Child's Play remake Chucky

The first look at the upcoming Child’s Play remake dropped, and we have to say- it looks downright fantastic. The film, directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid), stars Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) as Andy Barclay and Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as his mom, Karen Barclay. The remake follows a mom and young boy who are terrorized by an fully animatronic killer doll after the boy receives it as a birthday gift.

We know that the words “remake” and “reboot” are dirty words within the horror genre at times, and the Child’s Play remake has received the reactions we expect by now. Added into the mix is the fact that the Child’s Play franchise is still quite healthy. Not only was the last sequel released just two years ago- Cult of Chucky (2017)- but there is also a series in development with Syfy. The story will pick up after the events of Cult of Chucky.

It has definitely seen some controversy, with Child’s Play 2 star Christine Elise telling Horror Geek Life during an interview that the remake was an “unbelievably huge dick move.” Don Mancini, writer on the original Child’s Play and director of multiple sequels, has also spoken out about the remake, and the fact that he and fellow creators of the original films will not be involved. You can read more on his statements here.

There is no doubt that Child’s Play is one of the most controversial horror remakes we have seen released in a while. But, all of that aside, we cannot help but watch the new teaser trailer and get excited. Beyond from the excellent casting, the teaser is very polished and looks pretty terrifying. It will be great to see the killer doll return to straight-up horror while Mancini and his crew prepare for the upcoming Syfy series.
