The Wyld Stallyns are heading back to the big screen next year, as Bill & Ted Face the Music is currently in production. The modern-day sequel to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey brings back Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as the titular rockers, with other familiar faces from the series returning as well. While George Carlin sadly isn’t here to reprise his role as Rufus, the late comedian will still be honored, as his daughter Kelly Carlin has been cast for a part in the film.
The announcement comes directly from Kelly herself on her official Twitter account. “It’s real. I get to be a part of Bill & Ted Face the Music,” Kelly says in the post, also thanking writer Ed Solomon and star Alex Winter. At this time, details on her character aren’t clear, but I like the idea of her playing a relative of Rufus. Solomon has previously said there’s an important character in the movie named Kelly, but it has yet to be confirmed if this is who Carlin will be playing.
It’s real. I get to be a part of Bill & Ted Face the Music. Thank you @ed_solomon & @Winter for including me.

Carlin will be joining franchise newcomers Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving, who will be co-starring as Ted and Bill’s daughters. Kid Cudi has also been cast in an undisclosed role. However, at least one other character from the previous movies will be returning along with Bill and Ted, as William Sadler is confirmed to reprise his Bogus Journey role as Death.
Bill & Ted Face the Music is set for a theatrical release on Aug. 21, 2020. In the third installment of the film series, the story will follow Bill and Ted as middle-aged adults in 2020. This time, their adventure will see them looking to bring about world peace through the power of their music as the Wyld Stallyns. Stay tuned for more updates!
