After delving into some of pro wrestling’s most tragic real-life stories in the first season, VICE TV’s Dark Side of the Ring returns this month with several new stories for season 2. The season will begin on March 24, starting with a two-hour, two-part episode focusing on the Benoit family tragedy. Longtime wrestling fans certainly know the story, but for those unaware, Chris Benoit was one of WWE’s most beloved wrestlers until he murdered his wife and 7-year-old son before killing himself in June of 2007, forever changing the wrestling business.
Wrestling superstar Chris Jericho will also be hosting season 2 of Dark Side of the Ring. As a close, personal friend of Benoit, he will have a lot to say in the season 2 premiere, with some of his comments making it into the trailer. Others who knew Benoit and his wife and son, Nancy and Daniel, will also be speaking about the incident in the show. That includes Benoit’s son from a previous marriage, David Benoit, and Nancy’s sister Sandra Toffoloni.
From the press release, the other episodes featured this season include “the murder of Dino Bravo; the controversial “Brawl for All” tournament that led to career-ending injuries; the feared career of New Jack; David Schultz’s violent run-in with a 20/20 reporter; the death of Nancy Argentino, Jimmy Snuka’s girlfirend; the inside story of wrestling’s ultimate tag team partnership Hawk and Animal; Herb Abrams’ fanatical attempt to build a wrestling empire; and the devastating story of Owen Hart’s stunt that went tragically wrong.”
Dark Side of the Ring will premiere on VICE TV on Tuesday, March 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes will air on Tuesdays beginning the following week at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. You can watch the season 2 premiere trailer below.
