Very sad news is coming in as it’s been reported that actress Lee Fierro, perhaps best known for her role in the classic Steven Spielberg movie Jaws, has passed away. According to The Martha’s Vineyard Times, Fierro died at the assisted living facility where she’d been residing in Ohio due to complications suffered from the coronavirus (COVID-19). She was 91 years old.

In Jaws, Fierro played Mrs. Kintner – the grieving mother who slaps Brody (Roy Scheider) after her young son Alex (Jeffrey Voorhees) is killed by the shark. Though the role was brief, her character remains among the most memorable from the film because of the compelling scene. Fierro would also reprise the role years later for a cameo in the fourth installment of the series, Jaws: The Revenge. She would also appear in documentaries made about the Jaws franchise, including a 25th anniversary doc looking back at the film in 2015.

Apart from her work in the Jaws series, Fierro also appeared in the 2016 drama movie The Mistover Tale as Priscilla Goodrich. She also worked as a prolific trainer for aspiring actors at the Island Theatre Workshop, helping hundreds of young talents finding their way in show business. She’d work there for decades as the artistic director before retiring to Ohio in 2017 to spend the rest of her life close to her family.

Reportedly, a small service will be held for Fierro by her family in Ohio due to social distancing requirements as a result of coronavirus prevention measures. An additional memorial service for her will be held at Martha’s Vineyard, the location where Jaws was filmed, in the future. Our thoughts go out to Fierro’s family at this time. Playing such an important role in one of the greatest movies ever made will ensure she is always remembered. Rest in peace, Lee Fierro.
