Shout! Studios and Syfy are partnering to release a remake of the 1982 slasher film The Slumber Party Massacre. The reimagining will be directed by Danishka Esterhazy (The Banana Splits Movie, I Was Lorena Bobbitt) with a screenplay by Suzanne Keilly (Leprechaun Returns, Ash vs Evil Dead). Brent Haynes, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos, and Jordan Fields will executive produce.

The film, which already wrapped filming last month, stars Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor, and Reze-Tiana Wessels. Slumber Party Massacre is expected to release on Syfy later this year, and although exact details are still unknown, it will follow the same premise of the 1982 film.

Brent Haynes, Shout’s Head of Original Content Development, tells Deadline, “Remaking one of the seminal films of Roger Corman and Amy Holden Jones’ early work is exciting and audacious. But there are no better hands in which to place this challenge to Danishka Esterhazy, Suzanne Keilly, and the team at Blue Ice Pictures. Their creative vision will both honor the Corman ethos and captivate today’s audiences.”

Originally directed by Amy Holden Jones and executive produced and financed by Roger Corman, The Slumber Party Massacre spawned two sequels in 1987 and 1990. As the title suggests, the film follows a high school slumber party that ends in bloodshed as a power drill-wielding madman lurks about, leaving bodies in his wake. The cover art is perhaps one of the most memorable images from the ’80s slasher VHS era.

The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) and Slumber Party Massacre II (1987) are both available to stream on Shudder now.
