The first trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming horror/sci-fi film Demonic has been released. The film, which began secretly shooting in 2020, stars Carly Pope, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers. Blomkamp is the director of District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013), and Chappie (2015), and has recently joined Gunzilla Games as Chief Visionary Officer.
Synopsis: A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed.

The film is descibed as an “immersive simulation horror film” using a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects). The amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film.
The trailer shows a young woman who enters a simulation shared with her mother, who is in a type of coma. Her mother went on a murderous rampage, and her daughter hopes to ask why. However, things get out of hand and something is released during this experiment, and the lines between the simulation and real world begin to blur.
Demonic opens in theaters and VOD on August 20th from IFC Films. Check out the new trailer below, and read more about Blomkamp’s new role with Gunzilla Games here.
