Filmmaker Neil Marshall, best known for his brutal and effects-heavy horror films Dog Soldiers (2002) and The Descent (2005), is directing and producing another gory monster movie in 2022, The Lair. His new film will star Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning), and Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World, Godzilla: King of the Monsters).
The Lair will follow Sergeant Tom Hook as he is tasked with leading a unit to find Lieutenant Kate Sinclair after her plane was shot down over Afghanistan. As her attackers pursue her, Sinclair takes shelter in an abandoned military bunker, where she accidentally unleashes half-human, half-alien, flesh-eating monsters known as the Ravagers. Sergeant Hook will lead a team of British SAS (Special Air Service) troops to save Sinclair and contain the monsters before they can overrun the area.
Regarding The Lair, which, much like Dog Soldiers, will be a good blend of action and horror, Marshall stated, “This is a crowd pleaser, an adrenaline pumping roller-coaster ride; spectacular and loud, inspired by classic genre movies like Aliens, Predator, and The Thing and their incredible use of practical creature FX. Featuring a new breed of screen terror, The Lair will be a snarling, ravenous beast of a movie. I’m going to get my hands bloody making this one!”

Marshall has never shied away from using excellent practical effects in his films. His unique werewolf design in Dog Soldiers ranks the film among the horror genre’s top werewolf films by the horror community. More recently, Marshall was lauded for the amazing effects in 2019’s Hellboy and his ability to turn actor David Harbour into the grumpy half-demon. It seems we have a lot to be excited about with his upcoming film.
The Lair will begin production in Spring 2022.
