Paramount Pictures

Very sad news has come in as it has been reported that Ted White, the actor and stuntman especially popular with horror fans for his unforgettable performance as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, has died. The news was revealed by horror documentarian Sean Clark with a post on Facebook noting that he’d gotten word about White’s passing. He was 96 years old.

“As I’m here setting up at Monsterpalooza I just got hit with the news that my dear friend Ted White has passed away. I was told he passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home,” Clark wrote. “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him and working with him for close to 20 years. He was my adopted grandpa and hands down the best storyteller you could have ever met. If you haven’t read it yet check out his book Cast a Giant Shadow where many of those stories are told. I was honored to be mentioned in the book when he wrote about his time in the convention world.”

Clark added, “I am going to miss you immensely and those steak dinners we always had. Also teasing you about your red, white & blue banner that made you look like you were running for President. It was an absolute honor my friend. Rest easy. Love you Ted.”

Others from the horror community are also starting to pay tribute to Ted White. Friday the 13th Part 3‘s Larry Zerner posted, “I had the pleasure of being seated next to Ted White at Monster Mania Con and he was just a terrific presence, a great guy, and a fantastic Jason. RIP.”

White had been a fan favorite in the horror fan convention scene, so many fans are also posting messages of respect. In addition to his horror con appearances, White would also be featured in documentaries addressing his time spent in the role of Jason Voorhees in one of the franchise’s most popular films. This includes 2018’s To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story, with White speaking about his fellow Jason actor.

Rest in peace, Ted White.
