‘American Mary’ Series Announced by the Soska Sisters

IndustryWorks Pictures

The cult classic horror film American Mary is getting a continuation in the form of a TV series. Released in 2012, the film is written and directed by the Soska Sisters, aka Jen and Sylvia Soska. It stars Katharine Isabelle as a med student who performs extreme, freakish surgeries in order to handle her financial struggles. The movie has since become a cult classic, though it was never given a sequel.

A decade later, that changes with the announcement that a TV series continuation is coming for American Mary. On Twitter, one fan requested that the Soska Sisters remake American Mary as another movie or TV series. That got a response from the filmmaking siblings revealing that an American Mary series is actually in development at this time, and it will be picking up from where the original movie finished.

“Yes! We are actually adapting it into a tv series,” the post reads. “I think you’ll dig the story that picks up where the film left off. Have always wanted to expand Mary’s world for a few seasons to really dig into her journey.”

No additional details were given, so it’s unclear if the show is in the works for any particular network or streaming service or what the plan is. Even so, it’s the best update yet for American Mary fans wondering if the Soska Sisters were to ever do anything more with that story. There’s also apparently much more story to tell that could potentially go on for multiple seasons.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the American Mary series, so hopefully more updates are soon forthcoming. If you want to watch the original film, you’re in luck, because you can currently do so for free. It is streaming on the free streaming platform Tubi TV.
