It was recently reported that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be reborn, courtesy of A24. There are early plans to develop a new feature film for the franchise along with the first official TV series adaptation. The latter will have actor Glen Powell (The Running Man, Twisters) serving as an executive producer.
In a recent interview with Variety, Powell was asked about rebooting The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He explained that he deeply loves the original film, going on to promise that the new take on the story will be something special for other fans. Powell was also asked if he may also appear in the series with an on-screen role, which he suggested was unlikely, though not impossible.
“Texas Chainsaw is, I think, one of the most brilliant horror movies,” he said. “I feel that A24 is a place that’s really making such special things. They’re such a custodian and guardian of quality… They’re so passionate about what we’re doing. They have a really strong vision. Everyone around it really cares, and when you have that sort of group mentality protecting something like that, I care about it, everybody cares about it, I know we’re going to do something really special with it.”
On possibly appearing in the film, Powell responded, “You never know, but as of now, I’m just [producing]… You know, I am known for wearing masks, between Chad Powers and Leatherface. But, no, I really think it’s probably something for [my production company] Barnstorm to produce, but I am definitely going to be very involved.”
