Shudder is celebrating Women’s History Month with an all-new documentary. Set to start streaming on March 20, the doc is called 1000 Women in Horror. As it sounds, it will explore how women pioneers “revolutionized horror cinema.” An official trailer for the Shudder doc has also been released.
It is based on the book by Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. Donna Davies served as the director. This follows Davies’ previous work in the horror genre on documentaries including Pretty Bloody, Zombiemania, Nightmare Factory, and Fanarchy. Producers on the project include Davies, Nicola Goelzhaeuser, and Giles Edwards.
Synopsis: “A deep dive into how women pioneers revolutionized horror cinema through their groundbreaking work as directors, actors and creators since 1895, leaving an indelible mark on the genre’s evolution. Featuring interviews with Roxanne Benjamin, Akela Cooper, Mary Harron, Cerise Howard, Kier-La Janisse, Nikyatu Jusu, Roseanne Liang, Annalise Lockhart, Toby Poser, Sara Risher, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Kate Siegel, Jenn Wexler and more.”
