Who doesn’t love a good horror movie poster or box art? We here at HGL certainly do. We also love when artists pay homage to those posters and box art. As huge comic and horror fans, we can never pass up a good combination of the two.
This week, we are taking a look at the five-issue mini-series Blood Feud, written by Cullen Bunn, with art and covers by Drew Moss, and published by Oni Press in 2015.
The comic’s description goes: “I’ve got a story to tell-a story about how me and a couple of poker buddies squared off against the very legions of Hell … and maybe even saved the world. Like all good yarns, this one has its share of action, adventure, mystery, and romance. As for how it ends, though, you’ll have to judge for yourself. Me, I’ve always been partial to happy endings-the singing cowboy riding off into the sunset-but I reckon that just ain’t the way of the world. This story’s got vampires, too, loads of them, but not in the beginning. It began, for us at least, with spiders.”
Each issue’s back cover features an homage to a different iconic horror film poster. Blood Feud #1’s homage is to Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 classic Friday the 13th. Issue two recreates the poster for Sam Raimi’s 1981 gory classic Evil Dead. Issue three features Tom Holland’s 1985 vampire horror comedy Fright Night.

Issue four takes on Tobe Hooper’s groundbreaking 1974 slasher film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, while Blood Feud #5 pays tribute to Don Coscarelli’s 1979 horror-fantasy film Phantasm.
Overall, this is a very fun collection to own, and Cullen Bunn’s horror comic series is definitely worth reading. Some of the covers are currently available on sites like eBay and MyComicShop. Happy hunting!
