The horror comedy sequel Another WolfCop became available this month both digitally and on DVD and Blu-ray. The film serves as a direct sequel to Lowell Dean’s 2013 film WolfCop, with Leo Fafard in the lead role. For this follow-up, a strong new villain was necessary, which came in the form of Swallows – played by Yannick Bisson.

As the star of the show, Bisson is perhaps best known for playing the lead role on the BBC series, The Murdoch Mysteries. Acting professionally since the early ’80s, Bisson brings over 30 years of experience with him to the table. Although Swallows is about as far from Detective Murdoch as you can get, Bisson shines in this role and has some of the film’s funniest moments.

How does one go from Murdoch Mysteries to Another WolfCop? We recently sat down with Bisson to ask him those very questions! Read on…

Horror Geek Life: You’ve been involved in acting and in the entertainment industry for over three decades now. How did you first get the acting bug which made you want to pursue a life in the industry?

Yannick Bisson: I remember when I was a kid in the schoolyard, about six or seven. I was talking about how I had this cousin who was going to make a movie. And I remember every kid in the schoolyard being completely intrigued. Everybody at school really wanted to be involved. It’s like we’re all born with this thing, we all want to be involved. So then by the age of 13 or so, my dad found an ad for professional training, so I went out and did that, like an after school type thing. And then that grew into having an agent, and auditioning for actual work. My first dramatic role was when I was 14 in Hockey Night, with Megan Follows, Rick Moranis, and bunch of other talented people. It got a lot of notice, and I did as well. And it went from there.

HGL: Fast forward to today, all these years later, and now you’ve been starring in the lead role on Murdoch Mysteries. Now eleven seasons in and counting, how are things going with the show?

YB: Murdoch’s coming along really well! We just started filming Season 12, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. I always wonder when it’s going to end. I’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it doesn’t. And I’m very grateful.

HGL: I can’t help but wonder, how does one go from that to Another WolfCop? How did this role fall into your lap?

YB: Well, a series of events. There’s a producer, Bill Marks, who I worked with on Casino Jack, with Kevin Spacey. And he kept in touch. He knows, as does everyone I work with, that I’m always looking for different challenges, and different types of roles. I want to be able to work and collaborate creatively on other projects. So, Bill Marks called me one day, and said, ‘We’re doing this thing. I don’t know if it’s your cup of tea or if you’re interested in it, but here it is.’ I said, ‘Absolutely, where and what time?’ That’s how it started. And the added bonus was how different it was from somebody like Murdoch. Being a bad guy? It’s great!

HGL: As you were saying, your character in this movie, Swallows, is very different from Detective Murdoch. What else can you tell us about playing this kind of role?

It’s so reprehensible, but comical. It’s great to be able to come and do this dark comedy type of stuff. I feel like we can improvise so much more. With this genre, it’s poking fun at itself, so you can really go far with it. So, that’s what I chose to do.

HGL: Without saying what happens, the ending of the film strongly teases a third WolfCop movie. Is this something you see happening?

Oh, absolutely! We built that in, for sure. I can comfortably say that that’s all of our intention. I say our, because we’re all together, and we all had a blast shooting it. And we all hope to do it again.
