Mad Magazine has been entertaining readers for decades with its unique brand of satirical humor. The rise of the internet may have caused serious damage to printed publications, but Mad has managed to survive by scaling back to six issues a year, released bi-monthly. Still going strong, the magazine relaunched earlier this year, switching back to its classic logo and setting the issue number all the way back to one.

Recently, the cover for the next Mad issue (No. 4) made its way online. As a special Halloween issue, the publication will take aim at the horror genre. That’s apparent first thing after seeing the cover for the issue, which depicts a spoof of a scene from The Shining. If you thought those twins from the film couldn’t be stranger, wait until you see them with Alfred E. Neuman’s face!

The horror parodies don’t stop with the cover. Sergio Aragones will be presenting A Mad Look at Dia de los Muertos (or, the Day of the Dead). There will be guest contributors, including TV horror host Svengoolie and comedian Brian Posehn, who will be poking fun at the genre. Exactly which horror films will be parodied remains to be seen, but fans of the genre are bound to have a good time with the magazine.

Mad Magazine No. 4 will be hitting shelves wherever magazines are sold on Oct. 9. It’s worth checking out for horror fans, but if you dig the magazine, consider helping to keep it alive by becoming a subscriber. You can find out more info about the publication at its official website.
