Back in 2024, it was reported that filmmaker Parker Finn (Smile, Smile 2) was set to write and direct a remake of Possession, a cult horror film from the early 80s. It was also reported that Robert Pattinson was serving as a producer on the project, and he was also rumored to be one of the stars. While Pattinson’s casting was not officially confirmed, likely due to his very busy schedule, a new report may have revealed who will end up leading the cast of the remake.

The report stems from Nexus Point News, though it has not been officially confirmed at this time. According to the report, Margaret Qualley (The Substance, The Leftovers) and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts franchise, Eternity) are currently in talks to star. It’s also being stated that Paramount Pictures plans to start production on the project this summer.

Andrzej Żuławski directed the original Possession, released in 1981. Starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, the film tells the story of a husband and wife’s marriage falling apart after the latter has an affair and begins behaving erratically, suggesting she’s harboring even darker secrets.

The movie made a splash upon its debute at Cannes at the time, with Adjani winning an award for Best Actress, but was largely overlooked upon its wider release. It has since become a cult classic, looked back upon very favorably by many horror genre fans.

A release date has not been announced at this time for the new Possession.
