It’s officially Resident Evil Requiem month, as the anticipated game is set to drop on the 27th. As the release date draws closer, Capcom continues to create hype. The latest promo is a full-on short film tied to the game, and it even features modern horror scream queen Maika Monroe as one of its stars.
Dubbed Resident Evil Requiem – Evil Has Always Had a Name, the short was uploaded to YouTube, making it free to watch online. Spanning about three and a half minutes long, it was directed by Rich Lee. It marks the newest role for Monroe, who has made a name for herself in the horror genre in recent years with starring roles in It Follows and Longlegs. Filmed in Mexico City, the short features Monroe portraying a mother living in Raccoon City back in the 1990s when the T-Virus first broke out.
“What I loved about it was it had a lot of heart,” Monroe said of her role in the short to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s really heartbreaking, the story that you’re watching unfold. I just thought it was a really interesting and a new way to portray this video game coming out.”
She added, “It felt very nostalgic. The big point was going back to the ’90s, the original location of Raccoon City. And then of course, you get to the end and they’re showing visuals of the zombies, that I would then get to be a zombie. It was really quite exciting.”

The video game series began as pure survival horror, though some of the sequels were much more action heavy. Resident Evil Requiem is described as being the best of both worlds by offering unique experiences when playing as two different protagonists. Sequences with Grace Ashcroft will be more reminiscent of the classic games by leaning more into survival horror, while playing as franchise mainstay Leon S. Kennedy will be more action-oriented, given his experience.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on Feb. 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Watch the new short film in its entirety below!
