This article contains spoilers for Reacher Season 4, Episode 6
Reacher Episode 5 saw details come together, giving Season 4 a fun and exciting boost. Everything went up a notch, including the action, pacing, and performances. However, in Episode 6, “Plum Out of Luck,” things eased back to build some character backstory. While the show still has the momentum it found, it was a curious choice with only three episodes left in the season.
Reacher Season 4, Episode 6, picks up where we left off last week, with Jacob (Christopher Marquette) held hostage by Amisha (Anggun) and Lila (Agnez Mo). The demand for Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and Tamara (Sydelle Noel) is simple: the flash drive or Jacob dies.
Reacher and Tamara Are on the Run
During a tense back-and-forth, Russell (Kevin Weisman) walks in, and all hell breaks loose. He gets shot. A smoke grenade crashes through the window, followed by a group of armed men. A brawl erupts in the smoke, and it’s everyone for themselves. In the end, Amisha and Lila escape with the drive. All the armed men are killed, and Jacob drives Russell to the hospital, knowing full well there will be questions he can’t answer.
While Jacob is at the hospital getting Russell help, avoiding questions, and running and hiding from the police, Reacher and Tamara have their own problems. With their faces popping up all over the place as wanted criminals, they need to hide and find Leo Ahlquist (Shawn Doyle), the man Russell mentioned before being taken to the hospital.
It also seems Congressman John Sampson (Marc Blucas) has finally lost patience with Reacher being in the spotlight and with the threat that everything could be tied back to him. He orders Reacher found and “handled,” which can only mean killed, as Sampson knows it’s the only way to be sure to end the press’s interest in this.

Reacher and Tamara find out where Ahlquist works, a 90-minute drive from their current position, so they stow away in the baggage compartment of a bus and head there. Meanwhile, Jacob calls his uncle on the police force, who agrees to come pick him up. However, while Jacob is in the backseat of his uncle’s police car, more vehicles arrive, and Jacob realizes his uncle has turned him over to get his story out.
The cop who takes him away is none other than Tamara’s partner, Shaun Docherty (Kevin Corrigan). While driving back, Docherty seems conflicted about what he’s about to do, which could mean Jacob’s death.
When they arrive at Ahlquist’s place of business, he’s destroying evidence, hardly the act of an innocent man. Reacher threatens him for information, but Ahlquist’s mercenaries, the same ones we’ve seen at different times this season, arrive to take them away and kill them.
Before he leaves, Ahlquist taunts Reacher, saying he was going to die before ever knowing what was really going on. Even after he leaves, Reacher and Tamara put up a good fight. Still, they are subdued and driven away to a remote wooded area where the mercenaries intend to dump their bodies after they are dead.
Reacher Season 4, Episode 6 Slows Down to Build Character

During Episode 6, the show took time to dig into characters’ backgrounds. During the bus ride with Reacher, we learned a little more about why Tamara stopped caring and stopped pushing hard as a cop. We also learned more about Lila and why she is so committed to Amisha.
Speaking of those two, they meet up with the mystery man they are working for, but he remains unrecognizable in the shadows. It is all connected to the pesticides from Ahlquiest’s company and the mysterious information in the picture. It requires a computer program to extract what they need and is part of the bigger picture of what’s really going on.
“Plum Out of Luck” delivered solid action and storylines that meshed well with the new information we were given and the dire circumstances Team Reacher finds themselves in. This time, all their lives hang in the balance. Reacher is obviously going to make it out of this, but it remains to be seen who else will survive and who may have seen their last episode.
Reacher Season 4, Episode 6, is now streaming on Prime Video. New episodes premiere every Wednesday through Sept. 16.
