The video game horror movie Livescream from Octopunk Media is now available to rent or purchase on video-on-demand outlets. We happened to catch a screening of this film at Nightmares Film Festival 2018 found it to be among the very best of the fest, thanks in part to its unique premise and the performance of its lead actor, Gunner Willis. At the event, director Michelle Iannantuono even won a Best Director award for her work on the movie, and Livescream has earned several other Acting and Directing awards elsewhere in the film festival circuit as well.
In Livescream, Gunner Willis (Ozark) plays Scott, a popular video game streamer, and the entire story is told from the point-of-view of his livestream. When an anonymous fan suggests he try the mysterious video game Livescream, Scott obliges, but soon enough learns of the game’s horrific nature when his deaths in the game result in the real-life deaths of his fans. Scott must then fall back on his experience as a gamer to reach the end of the game without making any more mistakes, or it will cost his followers their lives.
Horror fans into gaming should appreciate Livescream most of all. “Nearly every creative choice I made for Livescream was inspired by a game, a game player, a game developer, a reference to a popular video, or some aspect of the culture,” Iannantuono said of the project. “Over these years I have observed, and felt in my own heart, the deep, intimate connection between streamers and their fans.”
Livescream is now available worldwide on VOD, and if the film sounds up your alley, I highly recommend giving it a watch. In the United States and Canada, you can rent or purchase the film digitally at Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Microsft/Xbox, and the PlayStation Store (search “Livescream”). Those outside of the U.S. and Canada can watch the film on Vimeo. Of course, if you’re a collector with a preference for the physical copy of the film, you can always pick up a signed Blu-ray from Octopunk Media on Etsy.
