It was announced yesterday that Adam Wingard has closed a deal to direct Godzilla vs. Kong. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures is bringing the highly anticipated match between two of the big screen’s biggest monsters to life.
Adam Wingard is well known for his low budget horror thrillers, such as Blair Witch, You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, and The Guest, but this is his first foray into big budget territory. Considering that he is said to be a massive fan of both Godzilla and Kong movies, this should be a dream project for him.
Godzilla vs. Kong is being written by a team, lead by Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), which includes Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, T.S. Nowlin (Maze Runner), Jack Paglin (Transcendence), and J. Michael Stracyznski (Babylon 5). Little is known about the plot, beyond the fact that we will see Kong fight Godzilla.
The film is scheduled for release on May 22, 2020.
