At Sony’s E3 2017 conference, new gameplay for Insomniac’s Spider-Man was revealed. It gives us an in-depth look at the game’s combat and web-slinging.
We see Ol’ Webhead himself taking on a gang of heavily armed thugs in a construction site. The trailer shows the hero methodically taking down the bad guys using his heightened senses, environmental traps and his superhero moves. It then shows off a straight-up fight, with Spider-Man using his Spider-sense to dodge enemy gunfire and take down his enemies in spectacular fashion. We follow that with a high-speed chase over the streets of New York as Spider-Man chases an enemy helicopter, while simultaneously preventing collateral damage with innovative use of quick-time events.
Insomniac looks to have completely revamped the web-slinging gameplay, with traversal over the city looking smooth and exciting. DC Comics have long held a stranglehold over the video game market, but with this release, Marvel may be ready to wrestle that crown from them. I’m a huge fan of Spider-Man, and seeing him done justice in this way brings a tear to my eye. After several mediocre games, it looks like your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man may finally be getting the game he deserves.
Check out the trailer and let us know what you think! Are you all set to swing through New York and save the day? Or are your Spider-Senses not tingling for this one? As always, let us know in the comments and on social media!
