Game Review: Golem Gates Keeps the Ash Flowing

Golem Gates
Laser Guided Games LLC,

Golem Gates is a Real Time Strategy/Card/MOBA by developers Laser Guided Games and Hollow Earth. At the helm of the Harbinger, you are a powerful being who has been sent out on a task to bring down the Golem Gates and the enemy Harbingers. The Harbinger uses a powerful substance called The Ash, which can be used to command powerful armies to hunt down control points to build upon your forces. The more control points you have, the faster you can build up. There are different objectives in each of the fifteen chapters that follow the straight-forward, yet pretty cool story of the Harbinger’s return.

As you progress, you unlock cards (Glyphs) that give you more options to build upon your legions. It’s a good idea to make sure you go into battle prepared because with the wrong set of cards, things can go badly pretty quickly. You have a few different options at your disposal such as Units, Structures, Traps, and Techs. Each option offers up unique features such as Turrets, Explosive Mines, Flames, and Infantry.

Golem Gates offers up some good fun and replay after you finish the story. You can go head to head with your friends in a nail-biting, yet fun, multiplayer. If that’s not enough, there are thirty trials that help unlock new Glyphs for your collection. I recommend playing these challenges during the main story. I was lucky enough to get some pretty cool cards to help me further my story campaign. Lastly, we have survival. With several maps to choose from, you and a friend need to hold off for as long as possible. Can you survive?

All in all, I had a good time with Golem Gates. The keyboard controls are easy to learn with hardly any learning curve and you have the option to setup hotkeys for spot on precision. The graphics are beautifully smooth running on Ultra. I did encounter a couple of crashes, but it didn’t detract from the experience. Also, as of April 13th, Laser Guided Games/Hollow Earth released a patch and I haven’t had any problems since.

If you enjoy a good challenge and want a cool new story, check out Golem Gates. The people at Laser Guided Games/Hollow Earth did a very good job and I look forward to some more improvements and add-ons. Perhaps a difficulty level for first time players. I would love to see my Harbinger have some kind of “leveling” ability in the future. Pretty please! Until then, may the Glyphs drop in your favor.

Now available on Steam for $29.99.
