This weekend marks the return of one of the most acclaimed horror film festivals in the country, the Telluride Horror Show. Now in its ninth year, Telluride Horror Show has featured some of the best independent horror movies to come out over the past decade. Previous films include Creep, Victor Crowley, Hell House, LLC, The Babadook, The Houses October Built, and this year’s breakout indie slasher film Terrifier.
Perhaps what makes Telluride Horror Show so unique is the picturesque setting of Telluride, Colorado. Located on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains, Telluride is a destination spot for visitors worldwide. In September, it hosts the Telluride Film Festival, a prestigious showcase for multiple Oscar hopefuls. It also served as the filming location for the exteriors of Quentin Tarantino’s 2015 western drama/mystery The Hateful Eight.
This year, the Telluride Horror Show has loaded up on multiple buzz-worthy horror pics. In addition to a variety of live-action and animated shorts, including Milk, which is being adapted into a feature produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman), films being screened at the festival include Lords of Chaos, The Dark, You Might be the Killer, and Anna and the Apocalypse. Multiple directors and writers will also be in attendance. And if that wasn’t enough to satiate horror hounds, there will also be a 30th anniversary screening of the legendary cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space with director Stephen Chiodo present. The full schedule is available here.
In addition to the many features and shorts being screened at the festival, there are a variety of other activities to partake in over the three-day weekend. Friday kicks off with an ice cream social and concludes with some Killer Karaoke. Saturday features a pig roast, while Sunday sees a session of horror trivia.
The Telluride Horror Show runs October 12th-14th. Three-day passes are still available for purchase, as well as 6-pack passes (six film tickets for the price of five). Individual tickets to showings are also available, on a limited basis based on seat availability.
