Game companies Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division have announced an upcoming sci-fi space RPG titled The Outer Worlds. They showed off their two-minute trailer at The Game Awards last night, and it is glorious. The game, which is set in a dystopian universe in space, features brightly colored locations and plenty of humor.

Synopsis: In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

The Outer Worlds is co-directed by original Fallout creators, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, and developed by the company behind Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment. The game will be published by Private Division, a new label under Take Two Interactive, which is the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K. Although Obsidian was recently acquired by Microsoft, the game will be released on Sony’s PlayStation 4, as per Obsidian’s original agreement with Private Division.

The game’s announcement comes at a time when many Fallout fans are disgruntled over Bethesda Game Studios’ latest title in the franchise, Fallout 76. The game is a prequel to the Fallout series, and Bethesda Game Studios’ first online only role-playing survival game. It is set in West Virginia twenty-five years after the bombs fell. The game has been met with criticism over glitches, lack of NPCs, and players simply not getting the Fallout game they were expecting or wanting. Considering New Vegas is one of the most beloved entries in the series, it is easy to imagine players flocking to The Outer Worlds for the Fallout-type experience they wanted.
