Syfy

We hope you enjoy the upcoming finale for this season of Z Nation, as it’s going to be the last episode ever. According to Asylum CEO David Michael Latt, Syfy has decided to bring the series to a close after five seasons on the network. The next episode, the Season 5 finale, will now serve as the final episode of the show. It goes without saying that this news really sucks for fans of the show, and it stings just as much for Latt himself.

In a live video posted online last night, Latt gathered tons of the people involved with the show to deliver the bad news to the fans. It’s hard not to feel for him, though his genuine appreciation for Syfy giving them five full seasons on the network still shows.

“We were not renewed for a Season 6. We’re stopping at Season 5. We’re very sad. We’re also really grateful with the opportunities that we’ve had. This is not the end of anything. This is just the beginning of a lot of things. We had a great time.”

The next episode of the series is set to air on Friday, Dec. 28. Appropriately titled “The End of Everything,” the episode will now serve as the series finale for Z Nation.

Perhaps this is just coming at a time when people are starting to feel “zombied-out.” The Walking Dead has been hemorrhaging viewers by the millions over the past couple seasons, and it seems the undead are no longer as popular as they were just a few years ago. If even the premiere zombie show is struggling this hard to maintain viewership, it’s easy to see why Z Nation might be losing some steam as well.

Z Nation was a fun alternative to The Walking Dead, and kept a devoted fan base throughout its entire run. It’s sad for everyone to see it come to an end, but it was definitely a fun ride.
