As the Friday the 13th movie series wore on, Jason Voorhees found himself in some rather bizarre situations ranging from Manhattan to outer space. Still, nothing we’ve seen from the franchise would be quite as crazy as these five nearly-made sequels, which were all abandoned prior to production – for better or for worse.

2Freddy vs. Jason… also in the looney bin?

There were so many strange concepts pitched to New Line for the long-awaited horror movie mash-up Freddy vs. Jason that someone even wrote a book about it. Dustin McNeill’s Slash of the Titans chronicles the entire history behind the film and all of its many problems, including the various drafts the film went through over the course of many years of production. For the sake of simplicity, however, we’re only going to choose the most unusual Freddy vs. Jason pitch from that book for this list.

Based on the positive reception from franchise fans for Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, writer/director Tommy McLoughlin was approached by New Line about doing Freddy vs. Jason. Entertaining the offer, McLoughlin’s idea for the crossover would have set the story in an insane asylum. However, instead of featuring the actual Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, the movie would be about two mental patients who just think they’re Freddy and Jason. Only in their psychotic minds would the dream horror match-up finally be taking place, and the fight just likely wouldn’t have the same impact at all had it been completely imaginary.

Most of the other pitches for Freddy vs. Jason are rather goofy. Still, at least none of the others consisted of a complete bait-and-switch to this degree.
