As the Friday the 13th movie series wore on, Jason Voorhees found himself in some rather bizarre situations ranging from Manhattan to outer space. Still, nothing we’ve seen from the franchise would be quite as crazy as these five nearly-made sequels, which were all abandoned prior to production – for better or for worse.
3Cheech and Chong vs. Jason
Tommy McLoughlin’s idea for Freddy vs. Jason isn’t the only unusual Friday the 13th concept he’s pitched to producers. After Jason Lives, the studio was open to bringing him back to do another Friday the 13th sequel, after Freddy vs. Jason was once again placed on the back burner. While the idea for Jason Lives came to McLoughlin naturally, however, it seems the filmmaker was creatively struggling when it came to figuring out where to take Jason next.
When brainstorming new sequel ideas, McLoughlin realized Paramount owned the rights to the Cheech and Chong movies. Theoretically, this meant Jason could meet Cheech and Chong in a new movie, without the hassle of negotiating with another studio for the rights. “You know what? You guys own Cheech and Chong,” McLoughlin recalls himself saying in his pitch to Paramount. “What if we do Cheech and Chong-meets-Jason? They’re like camp counselors or something. It’s like, ‘Hey, man, I saw Jason out there.’ ‘No, man, that’s a myth.’”
Admittedly, the idea of Cheech and Chong going up against Jason Voorhees sounds hilarious. For better or for worse, however, Paramount chose not to go through with the proposed film.
