‘Scream: Resurrection’ Series Brings Back Original Ghostface

VH1

Although it was first announced back in 2016, there haven’t been many updates on the status of Season 3 of MTV’s Scream TV series. What was known was that the story completely reboots itself creatively, introducing an entirely new set of characters while dropping the storylines from the previous two seasons. However, there just never seemed to be any significant updates in the years since, and it all but seemed the project was placed on the shelf indefinitely.

However, as we now know, the season was in fact completed. Better yet, we are now just mere weeks away from seeing it. In an all-new trailer released for the season, which is being called Scream: Resurrection, a release date is revealed as coming on July 8. Instead of airing on MTV like before, Resurrection will be premiering on its new network VH1. The show will be airing two episodes per night until July 10, completing the six-episode run in the span of three days.

None of the characters from Seasons 1 and 2 will be appearing in Resurrection, and the same can be said for the characters from the film franchise. However, voice actor Roger Jackson – who voiced Ghostface on the phone in the movies – will be returning to voice the killer for the show. Leading the new cast will be RJ Cyler as high school jock Deion Elliot, joined by Mary J. Blige, Tyler Posey, Tyga, Keke Palmer, and CJ Wallace. The new trailer also revealed Paris Jackson will be appearing as well – possibly to play the opening scene victim, as Drew Barrymore had in the original movie?

By abandoning the previous seasons of the series, Resurrection also ditches the reimagined mask. Instead, we’re getting the classic Ghostface mask we all know and love, making the show feel so much more like Scream. You can watch the official trailer below!
