Mommy’s Little Monster is a short horror film from Patrick Green that takes on the topic of domestic violence. Green shows the impact through a horror-fantasy lens, which not only hits on an emotional level, but brings some scares as well.

The film follows a mother and young son as they stay in a remote cabin, running from an unseen tormentor. They soon discover, however, that they will never be free until they face their fears head on.

The horror presented in Mommy’s Little Monster is more psychological, with the two main characters’ fears making us see something that may or may not be there. The lead actors do well at selling this fear, and Green doesn’t allow the thick, unsettling, and tension-filled atmosphere to let up.

Viewers who prefer more in-your-face horror may be a bit disappointed. However, for those in the “sometimes what we don’t see is scarier” camp, like myself, Mommy’s Little Monster is a riveting short film with a touching and bittersweet conclusion.

If you would like to see the short horror film for yourself, it will be screening at Grave Plot Film Festival in Seattle on Feb. 1st and Tally Shorts in Tallahassee, FL, on Feb 8th. Visit the official website for more info.
