This week brings us another Friday the 13th, and that’s a major holiday for many horror fans – those of us at Horror Geek Life included. For many, the best way to celebrate the big day is with a marathon of Friday the 13th films with Jason Voorhees (along with Pamela and Roy) doing what he does best. The Syfy network recognizes this as well, as they’re set to air 24 hours worth of Friday the 13th movies back-to-back beginning at midnight on Friday, March 13th, and lasting until 11:59 p.m.
The films don’t exactly play in order, but no matter what time you may turn on the Syfy channel during the day, you’re gonna be seeing a Friday the 13th movie showing up. The original film appropriately kicks off the marathon at midnight, and then the rest of the Paramount films – from the original through the eighth installment, Jason Takes Manhattan – will be playing alternately, with some of them repeating.
Sure, these versions of the films will be edited for television, but those of us who remember watching the televised marathons in the ’90s may have a certain nostalgia for watching these versions. Eagle-eyed fans may enjoy watching out for which differences there are, and it’s sometimes amusing to see the ways some of the film’s language or violent scenes have been edited. In any case, edited or not, Friday the 13th marathons are always a good thing.
