The next game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been unveiled. On Wednesday, BossLogic took to a lengthy stream, teasing the setting through art for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Thursday morning, Ubisoft released a cinematic trailer, giving us a better look at the themes the new game will be tackling.

The trailer features the Anglo-Saxon king, Alfred the Great, as he propagates his image of the atrocious Norse, while on-screen imagery paints the Norse in the opposite light. The last half of the cinematic shows a large-scale battle between the Norse and the Anglo-Saxons where one of the Norse utilizes an iconic Assassin’s Creed staple; the hidden blade. The hidden blade has been missing from the Assassin’s Creed franchise for a while, but I’m glad it’s back.
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you play as a Viking named Eivor, with the ability to choose between playing as a male or female (like Odyssey). The player will be able to build their own Viking settlement, which will subsequently be used as their game’s hub. Valhalla will also allow players to customize their Viking’s appearance with hair, tattoos, clothing, and more.
The trailer confirms that the game will take place during the Viking invasions of England. As such, the game will take players to Norway (of course), but also the four kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon England (Wessex, Northumbria, Mercia, and East Anglia). It also seems to suggest that Norse Mythology will play a role in the game, with Odin getting a name drop.
