Sensing an opportunity, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz has volunteered to don the new Dark Knight’s cowl by playing the next Batwoman. Days after the conclusion of the first season of Batwoman on The CW, star Ruby Rose announced she will not be returning for the show’s second season. The news comes as a big shocker for fans of the series, as Rose had been expected to return after the network renewed the show for Season 2 back in January.
Still, although Rose has walked away from her role as Kate Kane on the show, the studio and the network remain committed to moving ahead on the show without her. This means that the casting process has begun to bring in the next lead actress, one who will presumably replace Rose as Kate unless a new character is introduced to wear the Batsuit. Cue Beatriz to step in, throwing her name into the pointy-eared hat for consideration to play the new Batwoman.
Taking to Twitter immediately after the news of Rose’s exit, Beatriz writes: “*reads everything about Batwoman.” Though vague, this teases that Beatriz has begun researching the role to increase her odds of landing it. When one of her followers suggested that Beatriz “go method,” the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star responded that she “legit did dye my hair red last month.” If she has the interest and even the hair, then Beatriz already has one foot in the Bat Cave, so to speak.

It would be great for Beatriz to land this role after missing out on potentially starring in She-Hulk. Currently in pre-production for an upcoming release on Disney+, Marvel’s She-Hulk series has yet to cast its lead actress, though Beatriz had publicly expressed her desire to play the part. Unfortunately for her, the planned production start date for She-Hulk was scheduled to take place during the filming of the next Brooklyn Nine-Nine season, meaning Beatriz couldn’t possibly appear in the new series and had to take her name out of contention.
Season 2 of Batwoman is expected to premiere on The CW in 2021. For those who haven’t seen it, you can see what the first season was like by watching the preview video below.
