chucky trailer
USA / SYFY

It’s official — Brad Dourif will be voicing Charles Lee Ray in the upcoming Chucky television series, on track to debut on Syfy and USA Network in 2021. Hailing from Chucky co-creator Don Mancini, the series will continue from where 2017’s Cult of Chucky left off, and it’s been teased we’ll be seeing several fan favorite stars from the franchise returning to reprise their classic roles. Now, Deadline reports that Dourif has been officially confirmed, squashing any concerns that we just might be getting a different voice for the small screen Chucky.

Of course, we all expected Dourif would be back to voice Chucky once again, as let’s face it, attempting to replace him would be absolutely impossible. For the 2019 movie reboot, it worked with Mark Hamill, but that’s only because the story was set in a completely different universe with an animatronic doll almost completely unlike the murderous Good Guy we know and love from the previous movies. Any attempts to replace the classic Chucky just would not work, so it’s good to know Dourif is now officially on board.

We can expect other casting announcement to be made as the Chucky series prepares to head into production. More than likely, Jennifer Tilly will be a part of the project, as she has been playing Tiffany in every movie since Bride of Chucky in 1998. Other stars like Alex Vincent and Christine Elise are also likely to appear. Personally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Chris Sarandon and Catherine Hicks, neither of whom have appeared in the series since the original film.

Chucky will arrive on Syfy and USA Network sometime in 2021. For now, you can watch a teaser trailer for the upcoming series below, and stay tuned for word on additional casting announcements and a release date.
