After spending several years in development hell, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is finally set to go with plans to shoot in Spring 2021. The project has been in gestation at Blumhouse for a very long time as creator Scott Cawthon wanted to be sure he was completely satisfied with the screenplay that will ultimately be used. Now, it appears as if that moment has finally come for Cawthon, who has given fans an update on the movie’s progress on Reddit.

In the post, Cawthon tells FNAF fans that he has “bad news” to deliver about the movie’s progress. He then includes a list of all of the “rejected screenplays” that were in consideration to be used, but as one is described as a “Plushies Take Manhattan” story, it’s hard to decipher what’s real and what isn’t. In any case, Cawthon concludes his list by saying that the “bad news” in question is that no more unused scripts can be added to the list, as a final screenplay has been greenlit.

Confirming that production is set for early next year, Cawthon also adds, “Filming starts in Spring!!!”

Last year, Jason Blum also provided an update about the project, suggesting that the team was finally getting close to a screenplay they were all happy with.

“We have been working on it for a long time,” Cawthon explained. “Super active. So I really feel like we have a very good shot at getting to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. I feel like it’s really moving forward. It’s not stalled or anything else. It might seem that way because we haven’t done any announcements about it, but it’s not stalled. It’s moving rapidly forward and I don’t want to put a timeline on it, but soon we’ll get a movie. I really feel confident about it.”

Let’s just hope real animatronics are used instead of CGI.
