‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Breakfast Cereal is Coming Soon

Ghostbusters Cereal Commercial (1986)

Ghostbusters: Afterlife appears to be getting a cereal tie-in similar to the one released in the ’80s for the original movie. The General Mills cereal doesn’t have an official date yet set for when it will start hitting store shelves, but a listing for the product recently popped up on Walmart.com. Not much information is listed, but the listing does include an image of the cereal box, though the artwork could change before release.

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife cereal includes red, spherical, fruity-flavored puffs along with white and green marshmallow ghosts. With the classic Ghostbusters logo featured on the box against a black background, the cereal looks very similar to the original Ghostbusters cereal tie-in. While Afterlife will introduce the franchise to a new generation, it’s nice to see these kinds of nostalgic nods to the original films.

Also on their way to stores are limited edition Twinkies inspired by the new film. While they look like ordinary Twinkies on the outside, they’re filled with blue “slime” cream filling. The artwork of the box has also been floating around online, featuring a look at the Twinkie and the Ghostbusters branding. Using Twinkies as a tie-in also serves as a reference to an amusing monologue from the first Ghostbusters by Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis).

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Reitman and Gil Kenan. The film primarily follows a new cast of characters played by Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, and Paul Rudd. However, many stars from the original films will be back, such as Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett, and Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz.

Following several delays, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be released in theaters on Nov. 11, 2021.
