Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are teaming up to release a reboot series of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The slasher is one of the most beloved horror films of the 1990s and stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Ryan Phillippe.

Both the film and the new series are based on the 1973 Lois Duncan novel of the same name. The new reboot series was announced during a virtual panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Though writer and showrunner Sara Goodman hasn’t released an exact date for the show’s premiere, she says the series will release in October, before Halloween. It will be a modern take on the 1997 horror film, with the premise honoring that of the original.

“In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.”

The new series will star Madison Iseman (Jumanji: The Next Level), Brianne Tju (Light as a Feather), Ezekiel Goodman, Sebastian Amoruso (Solve), and Ashley Moore (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping). Craig Macneill (Them, Monsterland) is attached to direct the premiere episode.

The series will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Directed by Jim Gillespie and written by Kevin Williamson (Scream films, The Vampire Diaries), 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer followed four young adults involved in a tragic accident before finding themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.

The film was a box office hit, bringing in $125.3 mil on a $17 mil budget, and spawned two sequels, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006).
