Halloween III: Season of the Witch | Universal Pictures

Don’t count on seeing Blumhouse remaking Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Since 2018, the studio has gotten in on the Halloween franchise with an all-new trilogy starting with David Gordon Green’s Halloween. This year, we’ll get the sequel Halloween Kills, followed by Halloween Ends next year, which Jason Blum expects to be the end of the studio’s Michael Myers Halloween films (for now, at least).

Green and the Halloween team included many Easter eggs in the 2018 film, acknowledging the movies that came before it. One such nod recognized Halloween III by bringing in the three familiar Silver Shamrock masks for trick-or-treaters to wear on Halloween night. The Halloween Kills trailer shows more Silver Shamrock masks, giving the controversial Halloween film even more love.

Clearly, the modern Halloween team has a certain appreciation for Season of the Witch, and some fans might have wondered if a remake of that film could next be in the cards for Blumhouse.

In a recent chat with Collider, producer Jason Blum was directly asked if a new version of Halloween III was of any interest, and this is what he had to say.

“Not to me. But like I said, my shepherding of Halloween – hopefully not, but currently, it’s done after the three movies. So you’ll have to ask my partner-in-crime Malek Akkad who will do Halloween from now until the end of time… he may do that, but not for me. Too hard – well, I won’t go into it, but I wouldn’t do that with Halloween.”

In other words, a Halloween III remake isn’t impossible; it’s just not going to happen under the Blumhouse banner. Given how controversial the original film was for leaving Michael Myers out of the story, however, it’s hard to picture another studio taking those same chances again.

Fortunately, we’ll always have the original, an underrated gem many fans watch every Halloween season.

Halloween Kills will be released in theaters on Oct. 15, 2021, followed by Halloween Ends releasing on Oct. 14, 2022.
