In 2020, AMC purchased the rights to adapt a whopping 18 books from best-selling horror author Anne Rice’s bibliography. The first adaptation will premiere in 2022, with an eight-episode series based on one of Rice’s best-known books from 1976, Interview with the Vampire.
Aside from the first, it is not yet known which of The Vampire Chronicles books will have series adaptations through AMC.
In this first book from Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles series, the vampire Louis tells his story of becoming a creature of the night and meeting others along the way, including vampires Claudia, Armand, and Lestat, his creator. It has been announced that actor Sam Reid (Hatfields & McCoys, The Newsreader) has been cast as the vampire Lestat, who makes several appearances throughout the book series.

The adaptation has big shoes to fill, as the original film adaptation from 1994 was extremely popular and successful. It gained multiple Oscar nominations and featured memorable performances from Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Slater, and Tom Cruise as the iconic vampire Lestat.
AMC showrunners Rolin Jones (Weeds, Friday Night Lights) and Mark Johnson will be joined by Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice as producers of the new series. No official release date has been announced, but the Interview with the Vampire series is rumored to premiere in the Fall of next year.
