At Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase event, along with their Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 announcement, Insomniac Games also revealed that Marvel’s Wolverine is in the works. The standalone game focused on the X-Men fan-favorite is being directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, both who led the creative teams behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a massive hit for Sony in the last year.

In a message from Insomniac Games’ Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations, Ryan Schneider, he said:

“In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit. Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.”

Though not much has been announced about Marvel’s Wolverine aside from the teaser trailer, voice actor David Hayter, known for voicing Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games, has expressed interest in voicing Logan for the new Marvel release. Hayter has dabbled in comic book media before, playing small roles in X-Men (2000) and X2: X-Men United (2003), and writing the screenplay for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (2009).

Though no official release date for Marvel’s Wolverine has been announced, the game is expected to release sometime after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023.
