Zoinks! Matthew Lillard, the actor and voice actor who has embodied the iconic character of Shaggy Rogers in both live-action and animated form, is once again returning to the role. When the new film Scoob! was released last year, it came with a new voice for Shaggy with Will Forte taking over the role for the apparent reboot. When the casting was first announced, Lillard said at the time that he was pretty bummed that he wasn’t called to reprise the role.

“About Scoob!, I don’t have a lot of nice things to say,” Lillard told Entertainment Tonight. “I wish them well, I hope the movie does really well. I mean, it was a drag. And I was surprised that happened. And I think Hollywood’s an interesting place and I’ve been around for a long time. Some of them are easier than others when you don’t get a job, but that one was a bummer. I like playing the part I like sort of having a legacy and a career that I’ve spent 30 years doing. So I like the fact that I was that part, and it was a bummer that it went a different way.”

This mistake is being rectified in a way by getting Lillard back into the role for MultiVersus. The upcoming video game, a platform brawler similar to Super Smash Bros. but with various characters from the Warner Bros. library, has enlisted Shaggy as a playable character to represent the Scooby-Doo franchise. Shortly after it was announced that Shaggy had been added, it was also revealed that Matthew Lillard would be voicing the character for the video game.

In MultiVersus, “the Multiverse is at your fingertips as you battle it out in intense 2v2 matches. Up against Batman & Shaggy? Try using Bugs Bunny & Arya Stark! This platform fighter lets you play out your fantasy matchups in a fun co-op or head-to-head fight for supremacy.”

Confirmed names for the game at this time include Shaggy, Arya Stark, Batman, Bugs Bunny, Finn the Human, Garnet, Harley Quinn, Jake the Dog, Reindog, Steven Universe, Superman, Tom and Jerry, and Wonder Woman. It will be released in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
