One of the most anticipated announcements rounded out PlayStation’s State of Play today, and that was Final Fantasy XVI. While the game has been announced already (back in October of last year), we got a brand-spanking-new trailer that finally shows off some gameplay.
The trailer, which you can watch below, gave us a good idea of how the combat will work in the new game. We also got a new look at the world of Valisthea as well as a spotlight on Summons.
In a PlayStation Blog post posted after the State of Play stream, producer Yoshida Naoki had this to say:
“Hopefully, with this preview, you all were able to get a better picture of what actual gameplay will entail — namely, high-octane battles featuring our protagonist Clive Rosfield wielding a full arsenal of attacks unique to the game’s many Eikons (summons). Not to mention epic clashes between the Eikons themselves that put you right in the action.”
Yoshida also confirmed that the game is fully playable but that the team still has many challenges to face leading up to the game’s release next year. Final Fantasy XVI is expected to arrive summer of 2023 for the PlayStation 5.
