Robot Holocaust is considered by many to be infamously bad. But art is subjective, and some may consider Robot Holocaust an undiscovered masterpiece. For me, all I ask for is an entertaining watch, no matter the budget or quality. This particular film was also featured on the original MST3K and is a fan-favorite episode. See… fun. Scorpion Releasing has reissued the film on Blu-ray, and it’s still every bit as ridiculous as remembered.
In a dark and twisted future, mankind is living in uncertainty after New York has been destroyed. Vicious robots have taken over the world, using their poisonous gases to pollute the air. Humans are becoming slaves, and their futures have grown even darker. Neo (Norris Culf) and his trusty robot Klyton (Joel Von Ornsteiner) have found themselves in a position where it will be up to them to take on the mutants, robots, and whatever else this post-apocalyptic world throws at them in order to save humanity, including the villain known as the Dark One.

This film was originally released through Wizard Video. As many of you may know, Wizard was a subsidiary of Empire International Pictures which was founded by Charles Band after leaving Media Home Entertainment. If you trolled the old video stores, you will likely remember having come across the box. The cover art is just as memorable as when it appeared on MST3K.

Up until now, I had never seen the actual film, only the version that takes constant jabs, which makes it difficult to concentrate on it. Having watched it now, the ridicule is actually justified. I actually really enjoyed the makeup effects, the rest of the film is the train wreck we all expect it to be. For myself, this isn’t a deal breaker, in fact, no matter how bad it was, it still entertains, and that’s all it needs to do in order to be a success.
Robot Holocaust was written and directed by Tim Kincaid and released on Blu-ray through Scorpion Releasing. The disc is pretty bare-bones, with the exception of a new interview with the film’s co-star Jennifer Kincaid. The movie obviously not something for most, but if you’re into camp or a Band completist, then it’s definitely not to be missed.
