Ice Cream Man, the 1995 horror comedy cult classic, is getting a sequel! Clint Howard, the original film’s star, confirmed Ice Cream Man 2 on his official Instagram page. He thanked the cast for a “successful table reading” and used the hashtag #icecreamman2023, implying that the film could be released this year.
Howard’s full caption reads, “Thank you for this weekends successful table reading… I hear the ice cream truck around the block!! To all the actors that participated in the reading… you all were GREAT!! and to our actors that couldn’t make it see you at the next reading. This is going to be a sweet ride!”
Howard is shown in the video sitting in front of his refrigerator, facing the camera, before checking his “ice cream treats.” He opens the freezer to reveal bloody pages of the script while familiar ice cream truck music plays. Howard promises a “bloody good time,” saying, “It’s gonna be sweet.”

The story was written by Norman Apstein, who directed the original movie, and Howard, according to the front cover of the script. Apstein has only directed one feature film and will be scripting for the first time. This will be Howard’s second feature as a writer; his first was the TV movie Cotton Candy in 1978, which he co-wrote with director and brother Ron Howard.

In the original film, Clint Howard plays Gregory Tudor, a deranged man who, as a child, witnessed a violent crime involving an ice cream man. Gregory, who gave himself the title of “The Ice Cream Prince,” begins experimenting with new flavors in his lab, which includes human remains, after leaving the sanatorium where he was housed.
Sven Davison and David Dobkin wrote the original film. It starred Clint Howard, Olivia Hussey, David Naughton, Jan-Michael Vincent, and David Warner.
