A third season of Dark Winds is in the works.
Per THR, it’s been reported that Dark Winds has officially been renewed for Season 3. The renewal comes about three weeks after the second season concluded following continued high viewership for the series during Season 2. It will be a bit of a wait for new episodes, as AMC is reportedly aiming for an early 2025 premiere date. That’s due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes preventing the writers from getting started with scripting out Season 3, though production will start as soon as the strikes end.
“We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level,” AMC’s Dan McDermott said of the renewal in a statement. “From the beloved novels, to an incredibly collaborative producing team that includes Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, showrunner John Wirth and star Zahn McClarnon, to the entire cast and crew, there is so much storytelling yet to come in this universe. Thanks to the fans for embracing this series and the critics for celebrating and shining a light on it.”

Dark Winds was created by Graham Roland, though it’s based on the original Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman. The show follows Navajo police officers, primarily Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), as they investigate mysterious crimes around their reservation. The series also stars Jessica Matten, Deanna Allison, Rainn Wilson, and Jeremiah Bitsui.
Dark Winds is currently streaming on Max.
