Now that Halloween is (sadly) behind us, we are moving right into the winter holidays, which means it’s time for Christmas and holiday horror movies. One new film hitting theaters this week is It’s a Wonderful Knife, which is billed as a cross between the 1946 holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life and the iconic 1996 slasher film Scream.

A year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers’ (Jane Widdop) life is less than wonderful — but when she wishes she’d never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse. Now the killer is back, and she must team up with the town misfit to identify the killer and get back to her own reality.

It’s a Wonderful Knife was directed by Tyler MacIntyre, best known for the 2017 horror-comedy slasher Tragedy Girls and the segment “The Gawkers” in V/H/S/99 (2022). The film was written by Michael Kennedy, who also wrote the Freaky Friday-inspired slasher Freaky (2020). Given MacIntyre and Kennedy’s experience in horror comedies and slashers, we are excited to see what they do with a holiday horror film. They definitely have a solid cast.

The film stars Cassandra Naud (Shudder’s Influencer), Justin Long (Disney’s Goosebumps, Barbarian), Joel McHale (The Soup, Community), Jess McLeod (One Of Us Is Lying, The Unforgivable), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, American Mary), William B. Davis (The X-Files, The Midnight Club), and Jane Widdop (Yellowjackets, Apple+’s Truth Be Told).

It’s a Wonderful Knife will be released only in theaters on November 10th. Since the film is distributed by RLJE Films and Shudder, we expect it to eventually land on the Shudder streaming service. Check out the trailer (and the awesome mask worn by the killer) below.
